For tiles, we settled on something A & B.  It has some green in the tiles so we painted the untiled wall green along with the family room.

Adding the island was worth every penny.  I stand at the island while I prepare dinner looking out toward the family room.  It is far more enjoyable than facing the wall.  My kids sit at the island for breakfast.  They also sit there while I work in the kitchen.  There is an electrical outlet on the side of the island that I use when I'm using the griddle (or any appliance).  We lost some space when we added the island but we don't miss the breakfast nook at all.  This layout made the entire kitchen more useful.

We are thrilled with the complete kitchen.  Even a few months afterword there is nothing I wish I had done differently.  Now I'm eying the basement...

We need your help to choose our backsplash.  We've selected three tile choices that we really like.  We will use a creamy colored grout in any of them.  Here are your choices:

A is mostly glass and is very warm.
B has a lot of grays which brings some continuity with the appliances, cabinets and countertops.
C has many of the same colors as B, but less gray and instead a really cool metallic tile mixed in.
D is some combination of the subway tiles (left of A) and A, B or C.   So if you choose D, you have to chose A, B or C too.
Here is a photo with the undercabinet lights off.  Please choose your favorite!

Donut lights!

We paid a little bit more for these LED strip lights.  They will last a very long time and not get hot!

It was so fun to come home tonight to find the countertops installed!  They are absolutely beautiful!

I had to take the photo below from a funny angle in order to show the peninsula.  Shane, the carpenter will make the post nicer.

Below is the new pantry.  It is out of the scope of the kitchen remodel.  We will finish this are ourselves over the next few months.
I'm super excited about this cabinet with the glass doors.  I don't even know what I will put in there yet, but it's going to be special!

We are in the home-stretch.  By the end of this week most of the kitchen will be completed.  Now we just have to pay for it.  :)

I've had a special request for information about the island.  Here is Bob's drawing:

As you can see, the island counter top is a triangle with it's tip cut off.  Those corners are going to be rounded a bit so nobody impales themselves.

The peninsula is going to be skinnier than in this drawing too.  There will only be room for one person seated at the peninsula.

Cabinet installation is complete!

The carpenter will finish the detailing on the soffits.  I've asked him to add an arch over the sink.  I made a paper model so he understood exactly what I meant.  The countertop dude came and meausured for the granite countertops this afternoon.  While we wait for the countertops to come in the crew will finish the floor and the electrical.

It's starting to come together and we are thrilled!  No more bumping into each other at the refrigerator!
